Radio Controlled Car Buyers Guide
Choosing the right kind of remote control car for yourself or your child isn't difficult, all you need to know is what kinds of cars are available, not I'm not talking about the outside of the car, this you can change to anything you want as it's just a plastic shell, I'm talking about he chassis and the performance you'll get, not only that but also what types of surfaces can they drive on.
Engine v.s Motor
An engine uses internal combustion to generate power, a motor uses electricity and magnets. The Nitro cars, a.k.a. Gas or Petrol Cars are incredibly fast and powerful, you need to know what your doing because if say for example you run out of battery life at full throttle, you will not be able to brake. This is bad. The electric motor is easier to maintain, cleaner and with a few tricks and hop-ups can easily beat a nitro car on the track, generally they don't stand a chance on the straight, but an electric car is much easier to handle than a nitro car.
Radio controlled Car Bashing
Bashing is the term we give to when you just want to mess around with your RC car, Racing yoru friend around in a local parking lot is a great example. It's called bashing because the surface is unpredictable, a track on the other hand is normally in pristine condition.
RC Types by Surface
- Off Road
- On Road
- Truggie
As the name suggests, off road cars are cars that you can take anywhere, they are built for jumps and tricks and are the best option for children and young adults
On road is my true passion, the amount of car setup changes and beautiful body shell replicas you get are astounding. Needless to say on road cars shouldn't go off road, they don't have the suspension travel to be able to clear the ground, and the chassis tend to be a lot more fragile, built for speed and handling, not jumps.
The truggie is a vehicle that has been build for both on-road and off-road, while they are impressive, I personally think it's best to specialize your radio controlled car, but this makes a great starter if your not sure which you'd like.
