Then it comes to buying toys for children RC can be a great gift, but you need to be careful because a lot of RC toys are not toys at all. Some of these tiny replica's are high performance racing machines.
This tiny little toy RC car is amazingly fast, brilliant for younger kids. Some of the things you need to consider when buying RC toys for children
- A tethered toy may be the best at first, these are reasonably inexpensive and are designed for young children. The tethered remote control toys are attached to the controller by a wire.
- Infra red radio control is the best "No strings attached" option, the range is limited and you need line of sight between the toy and the control>/li>
- Radio uses frequency crystals to transmit to the car remotely, they has a greater range but can be affected by interference
- Make sure that it's child safe, the antenna can easily break if it hasn't been designed for your five year old. These kits also often have very small parts, which are not child-friendly.
- You need to watch out for anything that has high speed spinning blades or wheels.
- The ideal toy would be one that is low maintenance, the high-end cars can be notoriously high maintenance.
- Keep it simple at first, the control should have two of three buttons and maybe a trigger for cars, the car should at most have a "High" and "Low" gear ration.
- RTR stands for Ready to Race, these are out the box racers, best for youngsters, but you also get high speed gas cars in RTR today, and these are not for kids.
- Buildable kits can be good fun, esspecially as a father-son project, you can build a kit in about 8 hours, but keep in mind that you need some extra equipment after you build up the chassis.
