Ensure You Use Your RC Car In A Safe Environment
Hobby Grade RC Cars are no longer the toys that there once were, even the entry level cars can now obtain speeds previously reserved for the top of the range racing monsters.
When you take your RC Car out for a spin it's important to consider the health and safety of the bystanders. Most of the time the people who will flock to see your radio controlled car in action will be kids, so this means that if anything does go wrong, there might be serious consequences.
Even if no one is around a run away RC car is no joke, it takes only seconds for your fine tuned racing machine to be converted into an odd shaped door stop. This will without a doubt ruin your day, so sometimes a little care is needed in selecting the right environment.
RC Safety Checklist
- Batteries must be fully charged, especially in Nitro Powered RC Cars. This is the number 1 killer of RC equipment. While it's less important in vehicles that don't fly, you'll find a run away RC car will fly quiet well for a couple of seconds.
- Ensure the track doesn't have any strange bumps or holes, these can send a RC car in the wrong direction and brakes won't work if your wheels are off the ground.
- Check that there are no problems with the running gear or other mechanical parts, this should be part or your maintenance plan
- Be careful when running in a location that has a lot of pedestrians and real Cars, drivers won't be watching out for your car, this can end in tragedy
- If there are other people racing or drifting make sure that there are no frequency clashes
- Keep in mind that while you may check frequencies before you go out a lot of people will turn on their equipment before checking. There is no fix for this some people are just careless
By being careful and not taking shortcuts in your maintenance and setup you will ensure that your RC Car and more importantly the people around will are protected.
Don't be reckless.
