Tips for Perfect RC Drifting

Once you have hang of drifting consistently you need to start practicing the finer points of competition radio controlled drifting.
  • Always get as close to the apex as possible
  • Avoid accidents at all costs
  • Use long sweeping drifts
  • The racing line isn't always the best drifting line, use it as a starting point and always keep the next corner in mind
  • Don't over rotate as this can lead to a wash out
  • Keep your transitions smooth, no sudden changes in direction
  • When in tandem stick close to the driver in front but watch out for traps

To be an effective drifter you need to know your car, we can't always have the radio controlled car we want, we often have to make do with what we have, if this is the case you need to find the weaknesses of your car and setup, and find ways to avoid these, but for the most part it's a combination of your drifting style, the chassis and the setup. It can be frustrating at first because you don't know how the RC car is meant to handle, practise and watch some of the examples of drifting in the Video Section.

Competing is difficult because quiet often the entire hobby crowd will be watch you and only you on the track, this can be nerve racking for anyone who compete's for the first time. The best way to get better at radio controlled drifting is to join a local drift team, look for local RC forums, you can also find information out from the local hobby shops, drifting isn't everywhere yet, but it will be soon
