Drifting the Long Straight
This is in my opinion the hardest part of drifting, keeping a combination drift going down a long straight.
Fish-Tailing
Fish tailing is the technique used to maintain a drift when you run out of corners, as the name suggests it involves left and right drift combinations without having an apex to aim for, very difficult and doubly so when you're trying to mimic the lead drifter.
The natural response from even seasoned drifter is to back off the throttle and then floor it to maintain the drift, backing off while changing direction and flooring it again, rinse repeat.
I found that while his would work for the first three drifts, I picked up momentum and by the fourth drift I would 180 and be pointing in the wrong direction.
The method I now use, which while still tricky is a lot easier to control is to not back off throttle completely, but blip it slightly and keep the wheels spinning the whole time, this makes the car a lot more responsive and lets you fishtail without making long momentum gaining drifts from left to right, but rather shifts the angle of the car while maintaining a pretty straight line down the track.
The problem with trying to mimic someone is twofold, firstly they will more than likely spin out or crash, so you have to be ready to avoid the, secondly you don't know where they will fishtail and how many they will do down the straight.
Practise makes perfect as with any hobby
