Lithium Polymer Batteries | LiPo
The LiPo batteries evolved from lithium-ion batteries. We don't really see these anymore, at least not in hobby shops and radio controlled vehicles, NiCd and NiMH are far more popular, cheaper and more suited to sudden and long discharges. The picture on the left shows a LiPo battery pack that has been pre-fitted with deans plugs, also know as Ultra-Plugs
When it comes to LiPo and hobbies there are not really any advantages
- All battery type require a specific type of charger, only the most expensive ones support all three type
- The other battery types will give less problems, last longer and deliver better power
- The discharge can be a little erratic with LiPo
In my opinion it's nor worth getting involved with LiPo, unless you already own a changer, otherwise stick to NiCd or NiMH.
