The Nitro RC Exhaust Pipe

Upgrade your exhaust to change your engine power curve

There are a couple of changes you can make to your RC exhaust pipe. The length of your header will dictate where the power is, use a shorter pipe for more low-end power and a longer pipe for more top end power, by tuning for one you will increase the other. In other words a car with a lot of low end power won't have much at the top end.

The exhaust is designed in such a way that is uses bounced pressure waves, by changing the length of the header pipe you control how these waves affect the engine. The rest of the back pressure is used to keep the fuel tank pressurized.

Exhaust pipes are also used to keep the noise of the engine down, but there is a definite correlation between the amount of noise and the amount of power a nitro rc engine produces.

When you buy an exhaust pipe, it's normally been tuned for a specific engine, or class of engines. Be sure to get the right one.
